What does a Great wedding DJ do?

Many think that a wedding DJ might just turn up with their equipment on the evening and press a few buttons and not do very much. That is far from what should happen in reality!

In this article I explore the key role that I would play in your important day, and how I will work with you to ensure a truly unforgettable day.

Initial Contact

Initial contact is usually made by email or a phone call. The trend nowadays is usually an email as it’s an informal enquiry.

If it’s an email or WhatsApp message, I aim to respond within 6 hours. At this point if I am available on your date, it’s a great opportunity to have an informal chat over the phone to find out more about your wedding plans and I how I can work with you.

Some client prefer to handle all correspondence by email and that is perfectly fine and also works well.

If I am unavailable I can recommend a colleague.

Meeting Up

What does a great wedding DJ do?  – I offer clients living in Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambs & North Essex a free pre-wedding meeting. This can be at any time from the initial enquiry with me up to just before your big day. It’s whatever works for you and entirely optional. A large number of clients love the opportunity to meet up with me and discuss their plans. It’s also great to build up a rapport with you. It is extremely useful for marquee weddings to understand access, power requirements etc.

Keeping in Touch

This is very important particularly for weddings which are booked well in advance. Some of my clients book me 3 years ahead. Many clients keep in touch particularly if there are slight alterations to the weddings or they wish to discuss music. I’m always happy to hear from clients and have a chat.

Music Music & Music

What does make a great wedding DJ? Without doubt it should be there extensive knowledge of music, the ability to read the dance floor and play the music which you want, not what theDJ wants!

An experienced wedding DJ will be playing to all age groups and welcome requests. They should not be biased either and accept that people have all types of tastes in music

Lighting – Setting the Scene

Often a forgotten topic, but control of the lighting such as speed, and what it does will be in their hands. An experienced wedding DJ will be using controllable lighting, critical for the ‘first dance’.

Social Media

A great way of understanding your prospective DJ is to look on their social media pages, as this will give you ides and options for your special day such as:

Youtube channel

Facebook

Instagram

Collaborating with Your Key Stakeholders

Talking with your other key stakeholders will be an important part of the day and evening, to ensure everything goes to plan. This might be your best man, photographer, wedding organiser, caterer , toastmaster, or anyone else participating in your special day.

Your Compare

The DJ will be acting 9 times out of 10 as your MC for the day or evening. This means making all of those important announcements such as the bride & grooms first dance or maybe to read out some good wishes or remind guests to sign the guest book. Will your DJ be willing to do this and will they articulate their voice so that the messages are clear, at the right time and understood? This is down to experience.

Conclusions  – What does a great wedding DJ do?

My conclusions are is that a great wedding DJ will make all the difference to your wedding day. Picking the right experienced DJ such as me is so important as I will play an active part in your special day.
